Thrift Store Makeovers

December 6, 2022

best laid plans (singular best laid plan) (idiomatic) A proverbial expression used to signify the futility of making detailed plans when the ability to fully or even partially execute them is uncertain.

Yesterday I finally jumped in to execute the excel diagram I spent hours working on to plan the layout for my wall. I quickly discovered while this is very helpful for planning, it doesn't always work when executed. Once the top row was up and the top was level, I didn't have enough room for everything in the diagram, but I actually like the way it turned out. I realized some of what I thought were frames were actually mirrors. oye!!

I see the bottom mirror on the right needs adjusted, but not today! I don't have the energy. lol

I've been working on some thrift store finds I've had in my craft closet for quite some time and I'm considering incorporating them with some I already have on my living room wall. I am unsure if I want all the additional items I'm working on currently on my wall, so I put together an excel diagram to try to determine the best option. Even with the detailed diagram I'm still undecided if I will do it, but sharing one of the diagrams below. This diagram started as simple lines in excel and this is as close as I could get it to look like the real thing. All items are thrift store finds that I've modified in one way or another. The wall I'm looking at is a vaulted wall 12 feet high. The collage covers 42 x 64 inches and will be in the middle of the wall at eye level.

Today is Monday and I can't eat all day today or until after my procedure tomorrow. I'm hungry! I went to a few Goodwill stores on Saturday and found the cutest novelty frame for 99 cents. I worked on it yesterday and finished it. This morning, I decided to try and paint flowers to put in the frame from a photo I found on Facebook a few years ago of a gallery wall. I'm looking for something better to put in the frame but for now I put it on the media cabinet to get a pic.

The below pics are not mine. I found them on Facebook a few years ago and saved them as ideas. I don't know who to give credit to or I would. The tiny yellow flowers in the pics were my inspiration.

I forgot to take a before pic! The below pic is the back of the frame and the black is the original color of the frame.

Yesterday on Senior Day at Goodwill (30% off for us old folks), I found an adorable wood container embellished with the cutest floral design for 54 cents! I fell in love and couldn't wait to paint it a chalky white, so this morning after my coffee I did just that. I'm in love with how it turned out!

It was made to sit on my tiny step ladder and hold my lavendar topiary!!

I've been working on other projects in between the birdhouse and 'Spring' cleaning in the kitchen including the pantry and cabinets and I recently completed two simple projects. I found an old metal pitcher at Goodwill that had some details I liked, but it was in sad shape. It was originally a bright blue and had been painted in a copperish or odd pewter color. The pewter color was chipped and dull but I liked the raised detail and thought the details might show through better if painted a lighter color. I'm not sure if I will distress at some point since I really like the way it turned out.

I'm just starting to gather dowels for a small basket I have on the lower shelf of my entry table and recently found my first two at Goodwill. I will distress them later, but I think the color turned out great. I'm excited to find more dowels and sticks to add the basket. Once I get a few more I will add some greenery or faux flowers to add a little color. I use the basket to hold a collection of silver Christmas bell ornaments during the holidays.

Below is some of my previous projects that I've completed. I won't do a separate post for each but I wanted to share for ideas.
